Day One

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.   And there was evening, and there was morning, the first day.

Genesis 1:1-5 ESV

Who is God?    God is the creator.  He has always been here, no one created Him.  It is not known where He came from and He cannot be seen, but we can look around this world and know that He is real.  Like the wind – we cannot see it but we know it is there.
In the dictionary, "create" means, “to bring somebody or something into existence”, and "make" means, “to assemble something from parts”.  Ex nihilo is a Latin  phrase meaning "out of nothing". It often appears in conjunction with the concept of creation, as in creatio ex nihilo, meaning "creation out of nothing". (Wikipedia)  Just think how awesome that really is!
Some people say the world was created by a big bang that happened somewhere out in space.  How can this be?  Explosions have to come from something.  If there was nothing here then there was nothing to explode.
And another thing, when something does explode the pieces are scattered randomly everywhere.  However,  the universe is a very organized place.  Stars are grouped into galaxies and galaxies are grouped into clusters.  The universe was organized by Someone who had a plan for it.
What was there before God created the heavens and the earth?    Nothing.  Absolutely nothing.   How did God create the heavens and the earth?   We really don’t have the answer, other than God is God and His power is more than we can understand.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen.
